What is the ATA Fitness Training Program? Fitness has become a major issue in today's modern lifestyle. Young adults who are overweight or obese have an increased risk of pancreatic cancer, and being obese at an older age is associated with a lower overall survival rate for patients with pancreatic cancer, according to a study in the June 24 issue of JAMA. Annual medical expenditures attributable to obesity have doubled in less than a decade, and may be as high as $147 billion per year, according to a new study by researchers at RTI International, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. By as early as 7 years of age, being obese may raise a child’s future risk of heart disease and stroke, even without the presence of other cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, reported in a study presented at The Endocrine Society’s 91st Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Martial arts training has always helped with physical fitness because of its emphasis on self-discipline, focus and control, in addition to providing calorie-burning workouts. But ATA Fitness takes this to the next level. In addition to our martial arts training, we incorporate workouts from the Warrior X-Fit training system. During regular class times, we will do a two round segment of the X-Fit program, and on most Saturday mornings, we do the full regimen workout. This is an intense cardiovascular workout combined with strengthening exercises - 15 rounds of two minutes each, with a 30 second break between rounds. There is a warm up round, a stretching round, then six rounds of bag work alternating with six rounds of intensive floor exercise, some done with resistance bands. We then end with an extended round of 5-7 minutes of stretching. We monitor your progress in the X-Fit system and as your health and stamina improve, you will start to "win fights". An X-Fit fight is a full six rounds (the Super Six) of the floor exercises. Ten full wins earns you a promotion as you work toward being a Black Belt in physical fitness. ATA Fitness is available to the general public. You do not have to register for Taekwondo lessons to take this class (although we hope you enjoy it so much you'll want to start Taekwondo training). Your cost will be $75 for equipment and then $5.00 per class. You can buy a class package where you pay for 10 classes and get two for free. |
