The SHARP program was developed by PPCT Management Systems, Inc. and the American Taekwondo Association in a very non-traditional approach. Most contemporary women’s self defense courses address statistical issues of assault, attacker profiles and post-incident actions. Although such knowledge is important, the impression left with the female student is so negative that they are convinced they will become a statistic no matter what precautions they take. This course is designed to help women manage and cope with issues that they can control, instead of statistical information that has no bearing in a crisis.
Our teaching methods allow anyone to learn simple self-defense skills without extensive training or the need for long-term commitment. It is not necessary to be a world class athlete or a highly skilled black belt to participate in the seminar. The Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) System is the result of over ten years of research and development by Bruce Siddle, Special Programs Coordinator for the St. Louis Police Academy and a veteran police officer. Mr. Siddle worked closely with medical experts to develop and refine a system which would allow officers to subdue or move a subject by using only direct touch stimulation of nerve motor points. The system had to be effective without causing injury to soft tissue to reduce the risk of lawsuits. Over the years, the PPCT System has gained international recognition as a solution to many of the problems plaguing today’s law enforcement community, and the popularity and ease of PPCT has led to its incorporation into programs, such as SHARP, for the general public.
SHARP is taught in our school once a quarter. In addition, we can also teach it at your place of business or schedule a session for your business or association in our school. Please contact us at 713-532-2821 for further information. |
